Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks by StephaniePearl-McPhee

For the first time in my life, I've completely stopped reading fiction. In fact, I'm not reading much of anything, but when I do pick up a book, it's of the non-fiction variety, and I may or may not finish it. But I read this in a few days. It's not long, and Stephanie Pearl-McPhee is funny, so her books are easy to read. Even the patterns are easy to read and funny. And I read them all. I haven't knitted socks yet, but this book made me want to. Also, now I want to knit a circular shawl. Knitting something round sounds so interesting.

Now if I can just finish Jon's sweater and get the sleeves to look the same! That is my current crisis. (I'm not using a pattern, and I'm afraid I didn't write down what I did with the first sleeve faithfully enough.)

    I will add that to my list of things to make over the next many years. Actually, I already have "something circular" on that list, but now I can put your name next to it. Although it would be much easier to knit a circular shawl for a Barbie or a cat. Hey, don't you have some Madonnas or something? The Virgin Mary could certainly use a circular shawl. I have to admit that I don't really get the circular shawl. Do you fold it over halfway and wear it like that? I don't know if I've ever seen one, so I'm curious.

A couple of weeks ago, while I was showing my mom and two of my sisters some of the cool shops in our area, I bought Putumayo's Brazilian Lounge . We like various kinds of electronic music (or techno or whatever; I am easily confused by labels), especially lounge stuff by groups like Thievery Corporation ), and I admit that I thought if I bought something Jon would like, he might not notice the money I was spending. Wheat Thins Too Salty!

I don't know why, but some time last year, Wheat Thins started coming with tons of extra salt on them. The first time I encountered it, I thought it was just a bad box. But it's been consistent every time since then, across various varieties (except the low-salt kind). Nabisco, stop it! It's way too much salt! You're killing us. You took out the trans fats a few years ago, which was fine. The crackers got harder then, but that's a minor deal. But seriously, cut back on the salt!

Our First Day In Germany

Hey, everybody. Right now I am in our apartment writing this blog post. I’m really tired from the jet lag. We just got back from dinner at this really good outdoor cafe, where I had some yummy lasagna, during which I fell asleep several times. Our flight over the Atlantic was really boring for most of the time, but I watched Race to Witch Mountain and part of Hotel For Dogs and listened to a lot of music, so it wasn’t too bad. I am really tired. Today we went to the Brandenburger Tor, and that was awesome. Here is a picture of me in front of it: Also, a picture of the American Embassy.
