Definitely, Maybe (2008)

This is pretty good, but I had a surprisingly violent reaction to something in one of the special features. The director or writer or someone was talking about the movie (you know that every movie is special, right, and deserves its own thoughtful discussion about how they came upon their wonderful idea, how they found the perfect actors, etc.), and he said, "We wanted New York to be a character in the movie." I suddenly felt the urge to yell "Shut up!" and throw a pillow at the TV. Like 2/3 of all movies aren't set in New York!* Yawn. Or commit violence with throw pillows. Take your pick.

It was original as far as romantic comedies go, and the backdrop of the Clinton campaign and administration was pretty interesting. I had some problems with the movie (not just with the special features), but I think they might be considered spoilers, so I will leave it at that.

*This statistic is a fabrication. If anyone knows what the real statistic is, please tell me.

  1. I watched this show this weekend, and ended up just turning it off. I would like to know which girl was her mom - email me and tell me k! So therefore I never watched any of the extras.

  2. Okay, then. Here's the ending (so don't read it if you plan to watch it and don't want the ending to be spoiled!): The mom is Emily, his college sweetheart, the blond one. So they're the ones getting divorced. But it's April, the one who worked with him on the Clinton campaign, that's his true love. They are friends for years, and then one night (this is all before he marries) while he's drunk, he confesses that he loves her but also tells her she needs to get her life together or something even more offensive, and she slaps him and leaves. There are other times when he acts retarded and hurts her, too. Anyway, the wise-beyond-her-years daughter figures out that it's April her dad loves and they go visit her at the end and all is good. Seems highly unlikely to me that an 11-year-old girl whose parents are barely divorced would be happy to send her dad into another woman's arms, but whatever. That's the short version.
