My Date with Drew (2004)

This was delightful. A financially strapped, aspiring filmmaker in L.A. uses the winnings from a game show ($1100) and a video camera purchased from Circuit City on a friend's credit card (with the intention of taking it back in thirty days to take advantage of Circuit City’s return policy) and tries to get a date with Drew Barrymore. A couple of his friends help him document his attempts. It’s funny and kind of amazing and inspiring. I loved it!

  1. I caught this the other day too. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Drew handled the whole thing. The little homily at the end was a nice touch too.

  2. I would have been dsappointed if Drew had reacted negatively. She's always come across as friendly and kind of goofy, so it seemed right.

  3. I really enjoyed this movie. I was so into it, it was funny. I was totally excited when he was meeting her at the premier party and then again when he found out the date was going to happen. He was such a normal guy. And his crush on her was really clean and innocent, which was why the movie works. I think everyone has had a crush on someone when they were really young. It's just cool that he kept his crush on the same person this whole time. I'm glad it did so well. I also thought his friends were really nice and good friends for him. Drew's reaction did not surprise me at all. In fact, I was thinking all along that the only reason things didn't happen faster was because Drew never heard anything about it. All of her "people" are the ones who kept it from happening. Kind of creepy how the fortune teller got it all right. It was perfect that she got him the video camera too. It couldn't have been written better than it happened.
