Austenland by Shannon Hale

Oh, I loved this. It made me laugh out loud several times, and then I told a lot of friends about it. It's a lovely, funny romance with clever allusions to various Jane Austen novels and the films based thereon. Seems like I've read and seen plenty of stuff that alludes to Jane Austen, but not necessarily successfully, but Austenland is great! It's not profound or anything, but I loved it. And it's very clean!

    Erin, Just took a look at your blog--I love Shannon Hale books and didn't know she had a new one out. I will have to read Austenland. Have you read Princess Academy and Goose Girl??? Those are her two best, in my opinion, of her fairy tale series, and made it to my top book list. Clean and fun and interesting enough to appeal to all ages, yet layered enough to make it a classic. ~Val Harmon

    Hey, Valerie! No, I haven't read any other Shannon Hale books yet, though my oldest boy has. My sister read Goose Girl and liked it a lot. Her books are on my To Be Read list for sure.

    I've read all three that y'all have mentioned, though not any others. I really liked all of them. Austenland was a lot of fun. Thank you again for that book, Erin. I've already passed it on to a friend. Goose Girl-we read for book club and I think everyone really liked it.

Putumayo is a recording label that specializes in world music. All of their CDs guarantee "to make you feel good." So far I have found this to be true. A couple of weeks ago, while I was showing my mom and two of my sisters some of the cool shops in our area, I bought Putumayo's Brazilian Lounge . Wheat Thins Too Salty!

I don't know why, but some time last year, Wheat Thins started coming with tons of extra salt on them. The first time I encountered it, I thought it was just a bad box. But it's been consistent every time since then, across various varieties (except the low-salt kind). Nabisco, stop it! It's way too much salt! You're killing us. You took out the trans fats a few years ago, which was fine. The crackers got harder then, but that's a minor deal. But seriously, cut back on the salt!

Our First Day In Germany

Hey, everybody. Right now I am in our apartment writing this blog post. I’m really tired from the jet lag. We just got back from dinner at this really good outdoor cafe, where I had some yummy lasagna, during which I fell asleep several times. Our flight over the Atlantic was really boring for most of the time, but I watched Race to Witch Mountain and part of Hotel For Dogs and listened to a lot of music, so it wasn’t too bad. I am really tired. Today we went to the Brandenburger Tor, and that was awesome. Here is a picture of me in front of it: Also, a picture of the American Embassy.
