Sweet Home Alabama (2002)

As far as chick flicks go, Sweet Home Alabama is not bad. This is the second time I've seen it, though, and I don't think it would stand up to any more viewings. So I guess it's not a classic chick flick.

    Oh man Erin, Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorite shows. I mean how could it not be - Matthew McConahey(s/p) duh? I love the fact that you never really forget your first true love no matter how hard you try sometimes! I am just excited I got to post on your blog about something I actually know about. hahhaaa!

    Jessica! Matthew McConaughey isn't in Sweet Home Alabama! Patrick Dempsey is the guy she doesn't choose, and I don't know who the other guy is. Wait, I'll look it up.... It's somebody named Josh Lucas, who is much more attractive than Matthew McConaughey, in my opinion. Sorry, but I don't reall like him that much. I mentioned that once at book club and was practically booed out of the room. Anyway, I hope we can still be friends!

    Oh my heck Erin, I feel soo incredibly dumb!! You are soo right. I have had Matthew Mcconaughey in my head becuase I want to see his and Kate Hudson's new show Fools Gold. N E ways, I still totally love Sweet Home Alabama! I think Josh Lucas is good looking and I like Reese Witherspoon too. We can still be friends. Oh did you check Lillian out on my blog?

    I'm glad we can still be friends, even though I'm not a big fan of Matthew McNot-a-Hotty (do you remember when Mike Sewell said that at church?). I do like some of his movies, though. I liked Failure to Launch and I thought How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was hilarious. Kate Hudson was great in that. I really like Reese Witherspoon, too. I think she's a great actress. She was great in Legally Blonde and Walk the Line. Yep, I saw Lillian on your blog! That was fun. I need to show her now.

Defenestrations of Prague

Did you know there's such a thing as the Defenestrations of Prague ? I didn't until recently. I'd like to know how familiar the word "defenestration" is to everyone. I know what it means because of the German and French words for window -- "Fenster" and "fenêtre" -- but I can't tell if I'd know if I didn't know that. From Wikipedia's entry on Defenestration: The term originates from two incidents in history, both occurring in Prague. In 1419, seven town officials were thrown from the Town Hall, precipitating the Hussite War. In 1618, two Imperial governors and their secretary were tossed from Prague Castle, sparking the Thirty Years War. These incidents, particularly in 1618, were referred to as the Defenestrations of Prague and gave rise to the term and the concept. How about that? Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling

I believe this book is the first book on homeschooling I've read cover to cover. Apparently John Holt's earlier book Teach Your Own: A Hopeful Path for Education is a homeschooling classic (specifically about what is perhaps unfortunately named unschooling ). His protégé Patrick Ferenga has taken that book and updated it. Overall, I enjoyed it, but as I read it, I was glad I hadn't read any until we'd already been homeschooling for years. I came to basically the same conclusions, but in my own way. I'll start with a few small and probably petty annoyances. One of the authors commented that nobody would need to "learn computers" at school because it's easy to teach yourself or take a community class. But what he actually meant was learning to use spreadsheets and word processors, hardly what I think of when someone says "learn computers".
