Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)

I just discovered that I don't know how to spell "Caribbean." It still looks weird to me.

I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean. That was one of my favorite rides at Disneyland when I was a kid, and while I'm not a fan of Disney nowadays and I know it's a marketing gimmick to make movies based on their rides, I loved it! It was fun and funny, the story was good, and Johnny Depp was great. It even withstood a third viewing recently.

Anyway, I hardly ever see first-run movies, but I took my visiting sister to our local drive-in for the second Pirates of the Caribbean. For a few minutes at the beginning, I thought it might be really stupid, but then I started to enjoy it. The crazy action scenes are crazy and unbelievable, even cartoon-like, but the dialogue was again hilarious and clever, and the story interesting and good. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to seeing it again.

  1. Certainly nips it in the bud for me, I'll go see this, the second, Pirates of the Caribbean for sure now. Thank you.
It's been a while since I've seen Love Potion Number 9, but I seem to recall a boring-crude-humor to it. It made me laugh, but I can't say I'd watch it again, even for a laugh.

  2. Ezekiel, I didn't see Love Potion Number 9, but I was in the other room and had to hear it, and it sounded vurry, vurry, stoopit. Did you get a chance to watch Ushpizin yet?

  3. No, but now that I've actually written down the title of the film, it's more likely to happen :). I couldn't recall the title for the life of me. The other was Everything Illuminated, right?

  4. Everything is Illuminated. Really good. Very funny but deals with pretty serious stuff.

  5. I remember hearing Jay Leno talk about Dead Man's Chest and the fact that it made $125M that first weekend, which is a heck of a lot money. He pointed out the last time that somebody made so much money so quickly off of a dead man's chest involved Anna Nicole Smith. Now, I will forever tie her to the second Pirates of the Caribbean film.
