Definitely a kids’ movie. They hated all the kissing, but they loved the unrealistic sword-fighting.

    ally and i were just talking about how we are strangely drawn to the prequel to this movie.... mask of zorro... i think it is the sword fighting and anthony hopkins that wins it... anyway i dont think i ever this one but it sounds like i didnt miss much.... the bad guy is the bad guy from lost....

    The Mask of Zorro was a much better movie than The Legend of Zorro--more plot, more interesting characters, etc. But Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are beautiful people, so it's not hard to watch them, even in a mediocre movie. Which bad guy? Oh, maybe I shouldn't ask; I've only seen the first season of Lost.

    after being sick for 5 days and watchin a pile of movies it is strange that ally put on the mask of zorro yesterday without even seeing this first.... but as i didnt watch the whole thing i remembered all of it and yes i will stand by what i said before... this was a good one.... hopkins is the main draw here with his wit and ability to keep the movie going regardless of pretty people.... disturbing scene : watching antonio bandares drink a cup of "water" from the container holding his brothers head..... if i wasnt sick already that woulda made my stomach turn.... if you cant remember what i am talking about then dont try....

    I don't remember that part. Yuck. Have you guys seen The Count of Monte Cristo? It's not nearly as good as the book, but I thought the sword-fighting was very good. Not so choreographed and more like they were actually trying to kill each other.

We took a train from Rome to Ancona, Italy, where we had a one-day stop. Ancona is about ¾ of the way up the east coast, on the Adriatic Sea. The next evening we planned to take an overnight ferry to Split, Croatia, so this seemed like a simple transfer place, but Ancona is a really neat city itself! At night I wandered around and ended up hiking to a functioning lighthouse. The stone sign is at 104 meters above sea level, about 341 feet. Our neighborhood had some nice murals / graffiti: Here is a view out over a pentagonal building formerly used as a quarantine colony, a little island right by the city, open to the public: There are quite a few drinking fountains scattered all over, and all the ones we tried worked! Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility is my favorite novel by Jane Austen, so I was excited to go to an outdoor theater production of it at Burnby Hall Gardens just down the road from us. I told the kids that I'd take anyone who read the book first. Nobody was very interested except for Lillian, who immediately started it. She was about a quarter of the way through it when we saw the play and she's busy finishing it now. It'll be her first time reading a Jane Austen novel. (Insert gleeful clapping here!) Left to right: servant girl (also played Fanny Dashwood and Mrs. Palmer); Margaret (Lucy Steele); Willoughby (Mr. Palmer); Marianne; Eleanor; Mrs. Dashwood (Mrs. Jennings). In this production, all of the actors played multiple parts except those who played Eleanor and Marianne. I love seeing actors take on multiple roles in a production. This is not the sort of book I normally pick up at the library. But I liked the movie so... First of all, it's a lot different from the movie. And longer. It sort of went on and on, repeating a lot of phrases which got sort of annoying. Okay, I know the guy was an amnesiac, and he had to repeat phrases to himself to try to stir his memories or whatever, but if I had to read " Cain is for Charlie, Delta is for Cain. Get Carlos. Kill Carlos.. " again, well....I would have skipped it like I did that last few times it was repeated. The plot was really long and really confusing (I missed a lot). And THEN, after all the plot twists, all the chasing, fighting, running, excitement, the bad guy gets away!! Setting up for more books, I'm sure (which there are. More books, that is). The author was good at describing fight scenes, but my imagination has a hard time picturing it. Movies are much more intense. Now I have to watch the movie again. It was so different and I wo...
